Smart City Simple Air Quality Sensor Maintenance and Network Information Service Project

Absrtact
The implementation period of this plan is from October 6, 2017 to December 31, 2018. This is a pilot project which uses a new generation of small air quality sensors dense deployment in three regions (Kuanyin, Yingge, Dalinpu). It helps to improve the spatial resolution of air quality and to control pollution. We look forward to using this smart way to capture the source of illegal emissions and improve Taiwan air quality. The task mainly included: (1) Maintaining normal operation of air quality sensing network consisting of 200 nodes in three regions. (2) Providing information services, the total number of completed data per quarter, the weekly update rate and the validity of the data must be more than 90%. In order to maintain the normal operation, our team arranges regular maintenance and repair of the devices. However, due to the poor environment condition in the coastal area where the devices were installed, exposed gas boards were damaged quickly. Therefore, the second generation of devices was redesigned and developed, then the first generation of devices was planned to be replaced. Regarding the reception rate, the project is based on LoRa as the data transmission method. But the reception rate is not as good as expected due to LoRa gateway set up problem. Therefore, a large number of devices were changed to 4G transmission, and the statistical results showed that the data reception rate has increased significantly. In order to enhance Taiwan's software and hardware strength in smart city air quality monitoring. POC experiments were carried out on gas collectors and wind speed and direction instruments, followed by test installations in the field. This verification will enable wider applications of air quality sensors.
